Jeremy Renner Reveals: Disney Offered Half Pay for Hawkeye Season 2
The popular Marvel series on Disney+ is now on hold – and according to Renner, it’s all about money and respect.
What seemed like a surefire Marvel hit has now come to a halt. Hawkeye on Disney+ brought Jeremy Renner back as Clint Barton and introduced Hailee Steinfeld as his successor, Kate Bishop. The series tied into characters like Yelena Belova, Kingpin, and Echo, and fans were eagerly awaiting a Season 2 announcement.
But now it turns out that the follow-up has been shelved — and the reason appears to be an unusual contract dispute.
“They Offered Me Half the Money”
On the High Performance podcast, Jeremy Renner revealed that he was approached about returning for a second season — but with a much smaller paycheck.
“They asked if I wanted to do a Season 2, and they offered me half the money,” Renner said. “It would’ve taken twice as long for half the pay — eight months of my life — so I said no.”
Renner hinted that the lowball offer may have been tied to his near-fatal snowplow accident in 2023, where he was run over by a Sno-Cat and suffered critical injuries.
“Am I only half of Jeremy now because I got run over? Maybe that’s why they offered half,” he said with sarcasm.
According to Renner, it wasn’t Marvel’s creative team behind the decision — it was Disney’s finance department.
“It’s not Marvel — it’s just the bean counters at Disney. I told them to screw off, just because of how insulting that offer was.”
Disney Disagrees – But Offers No Details
Disney has reportedly denied Renner’s version of events, though without going into specifics. As of now, only the actor’s side of the story has been made public.
Despite the financial standoff, Renner says he still has love for the character of Hawkeye and is open to returning — under fair terms.
“I wasn’t asking for more — just the same as before. It’s a shame it couldn’t work out, but maybe my body’s better off these days without it. We’ll see.”
For now, it looks like Hawkeye Season 2 isn’t happening — and not because of scripts or MCU timelines, but rather cold corporate decisions behind the scenes.
