It’s been a while since we last saw a coffee machine explode in a bleak office landscape full of awkward silences and surveillance cameras.

But now, fans of The Office have a fresh reason to flash that uncomfortable smile at their screens: The Paper is the name of the new series set in the same universe—and the first sneak peek has just been released.

Same Style, New Workplace

The series is created by Greg Daniels (the man behind The Office US) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You) and will once again be a mockumentary-style comedy—but this time, from a different swivel chair.

The Paper takes place at a centuries-old newspaper in Toledo, Ohio—The Truth Teller—which the documentary crew from The Office has now turned their cameras on.

Here we meet the energetic editor, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who’s trying to restore the newspaper’s former glory—and who, in the first released photo, is seen standing on a desk addressing the newsroom. Classic leadership.

A Familiar Face Returns

The big reunion? Oscar Nuñez returns as Oscar Martinez—suggesting The Office isn’t entirely a thing of the past. Details about his role in The Paper remain under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: he won’t be the only one in the newsroom wondering, “Is this really a good idea?”

Also starring:

  • Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus)
  • Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo
  • With guest stars including Tracy Letts and Molly Ephraim

A Heavy-Hitting Creative Team

Behind the scenes, the series has more major names: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Howard Klein are all on board as executive producers—a clear sign that The Paper is not just another quick spinoff attempt, but a genuine expansion of a beloved universe.

When and Where?

The Paper premieres on Peacock in September 2025. A Danish premiere date hasn’t been confirmed, but if past releases are anything to go by, it will likely land on SkyShowtime or a similar platform in Denmark.

A New Office Classic in the Making?

With a blend of familiar faces, a new setting, and the mockumentary format we know and love, The Paper is well-positioned to fill the void that many office-comedy fans still feel. The big question is whether this new newsroom and its cast can live up to the cult status of the Scranton branch.

But one thing’s for sure: we’ve got a new reason to tune in and watch people be bad at their jobs—with style.
