The footage shows multiple North Korean soldiers wearing the two-toned “Saint George’s ribbon” on their helmets—one of the most important propaganda symbols Russia uses in its war against Ukraine.

Putin Thanks the North Korean Soldiers

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin also thanked “units from the Korean People’s Army.”

In the statement, it said that they “took part in the elimination of a group of Ukrainian militants who had infiltrated the Kursk region.”

“We express our respect for the heroism, high level of specialized training, and devotion of the Korean soldiers who, shoulder to shoulder with Russian soldiers, defended our homeland as if it were their own,” Putin said in a message published on the Kremlin’s official Telegram channel, and continued:

“They fulfilled their duty with honor and courage and covered themselves in everlasting glory. The Russian people will never forget the brave deeds of the Korean special forces. We will always honor the Korean heroes who gave their lives for Russia, for our shared freedom, alongside their Russian brothers-in-arms.”

Conflicting Reports About the Situation in Kursk

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed what he called the complete failure of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region, after Ukrainian forces were allegedly driven out of the last village Moscow claims they still held, Reuters reports.

On the other hand, Kyiv’s military says the information is false and that Ukrainian troops are still operating on Russian territory.

Earlier, a Ukrainian soldier stationed on the front lines in the Russian Kursk region—where the North Korean troops are also deployed—shared his impressions in an online interview with HotNews.

“North Korean soldiers have been training nonstop for 10 years. They don’t take part in trivial activities like sweeping or painting curbs. They’re effective, even with outdated equipment,” the soldier said at the time.
